Kent Botkin

Kent came to Green Valley in August 2000. Since then, he has worked in a variety of assignments for the company. Today, with the insatiable demands of online auctions, you can find him in a frenzied pace of sorting, setting up and cataloging the vast quantities of consignor’s items that rolled through GVAM daily. One benefit of online sales: it permits him to added important details to regional items that otherwise would be lost to time. The broad knowledge he carries regarding Shenandoah Valley culture and history is just one of many assets he brings to GVAM. As auction director he is adapting to the changing auction market trends, including Pokémon cards, post-industrial deconstruction objects and more.

As auction director he is able to combine his passion of learning and preserving the material culture of his ancestral Highland County, Virginia with everyday work projects. His passion for seeking out an acquiring Highland County material culture has led to volunteering at the Highland Museum in McDowell, Virginia where he can pass along the ‘memory bricks’ of his much-admired Potomac Highlands region. Kent has also written numerous articles about Highland County and history surrounding that area.

When not toiling away at GVA, he greatly appreciates getting away on extended international sojourns.
