Chanel Stevenson

My fiancé and I just bought a restaurant (Greens and Grains Cafe) and live in Harrisonburg. We have an almost 4 year old son. I love animals and basically have a mini zoo that consists of 3 dogs, a cat, a bearded dragon, a gecko, 2 turtles, and a lot of fish.

I'm originally from Mathias, West Virginia, but have lived in Harrisonburg for 11 years. Mathias  is only about an hour from Harrisonburg, but far more rural. I went to a very small high school with only 53 people in my entire graduating class.

I was a stay-at-home mom for 2 and a half years and prior to that I mostly did restaurant management and bartending.

Outside of work I enjoy reading, art, gardening and being outdoors. We spend a lot of time at the river fishing and camping. I also love crafting, junk journaling, and doing miniverse (resin miniature kits).

When asked what is most important to her, Chanel said, “My friends and family. I've been with my fiancé for almost 8 years. He's originally from Scotland and has lived in Harrisonburg for about 12 years now. Most of my family that I'm close with still live in Matthias, so I try to go see them as much as possible. My son and I usually go stay a couple of nights with my grandma about once a month or so. We've been going back more over the summer to help her with gardening and canning. She just turned 84 and is teaching me all about pressure canning. My dad lives in Harrisonburg and enjoys being a "pop-pop".

When I saw the Green Valley job posted on Indeed, I applied immediately because I love antiques and thrifting. I love looking through things. I've been helping my grandma clean out her attic and it often feels like going on treasure hunt. Some of the things have been packed away up since she moved houses 30 years ago, she collected a lot of antiques, ceramics, and Home Interior. Unpacking at GVAM feels a lot like that and I love it! I always get anxious about starting somewhere new, but everyone has been so nice and welcoming!

When asked what strengths she brings to Green Valley, Chanel replied, “No matter what job I'm doing I always work hard and take pride in what I do.”
